(SOUTH END, SPRINGFIELD) - Baystate Academy hosted Granby at Scibelli Gym, for a PVIAC Class D semifinal game. Each team was one game closer to the first ever PVIAC Class D Championship Game.
Baystate started the game well. Their press was forcing turnovers that led to transition baskets. They led after one quarter 18-5.
Granby got back into the game in the second quarter. They broke Baystate’s press and executed their half-court offense for open shots. Baystate’s offense struggled in the second quarter. They took some bad shots and made some unforced turnovers.
Granby was down at halftime 28-21.
Baystate came out of halftime lethargic and Granby capitalized. Granby opened the third quarter with a 9-0 run. They took the lead 30-28 after a 3-pt shot by Nate Breault.
Tyresse Christie responded with a three of his own; Baystate was back in front 31-30.
The game went back and forth for the rest of the quarter. Granby had the ball, with a few seconds left in the quarter. Breault attempted a 3 from half-court but was fouled by a Baystate player. He made all three FTs. Granby led after three quarters 43-42.
Travis Jordan made a 3 in the corner to put Baystate back in the lead 45-43.
From that point, Baystate outscored Granby 16-4.
Baystate beat Granby 61-47.
Dion Byrd Jr. scored a game-high 21 points. Travis Jordan scored 18 points; Tareeq Evans scored 15 points.
Nate Breault scored a team-high 14 points for Granby.
Baystate moves on to the Class D Championship Game against Hoosac Valley. The game will be played on Saturday 2/26/22 at 2 PM, at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) in Norths Adams, MA (Berkshire County).
