(WESTFIELD) - Friday night was the first road game of the season for the Eagles from Springfield Central HS. They travelled to Westfield to take on the Bombers from Westfield HS. Both teams came into the game with no losses.

Central has the best football program in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; they have the championships to prove it. They have and have had the best collection of talent in WMass HS football history. Former WR Joe Griffin is catching TDs @ Boston College this season. His younger brother, Josiah, will join him next season. QB Will Watson is headed to Nebraska 🌽. They have plenty of other players that are very talented. Their dominance doesn’t look like it will end anytime soon.

This game got away from Westfield in the first quarter. Central stopped Westfield on the Bombers first offensive possession. The Bombers punted the ball away. On Central’s first offensive possession, RB Tyriq Thomas did all the heavy lifting. He got loose for a big gain that flipped the field and set the Eagles up in the redzone. Then he capped off the drive he started with a 5 yard run TD. The 2-pt conversion was scored by DB Kymari Latney.

Central stopped Westfield on the Bombers 2nd offensive possession. The Eagles got the ball back and kept the ball on the ground. On Central’s 2nd offensive possession, RB Conellius Patrick got his snaps in the backfield. He broke a 79 yard run and was tackled @ the 1-yard line. On the next play, he got the ball and got into the endzone. Latney scored another 2-pt conversion; Central was up 16-0.

Central forced Westfield to punt for the third time, in the first quarter. The snap for the punt was high. The punter recovered the ball but was tackled immediately by Central defenders. Central had the ball @ Westfield’s 3-yard line. Watson threw a screen pass to Thomas for a 3 yard TD; Latney scored his third 2-pt conversion in the 1st quarter. Central led 24-0.

Westfield offensive players made some plays throughout the game. QB Jaxson St. Pierre made some good throws. RB Kaevon Eddington caught a couple passes and had some runs that gained good yards.

The Bombers, and more than likely every team in Western Mass, don’t have the players to compete with Central. Central is a phenomenal HS football team.

Patrick and Thomas each scored another run TD. Watson scored a TD on a scramble. Backup QB Antonio Richardson also registered a pass TD. He threw a “flip pass” to WR Jaykelis Algarin. Algarin got the short pass, weaved through a few defenders and got into the endzone.

The Eagles took off on the Bombers and soared to an easy victory 52-0.

Central (4-1) plays another home game against Chicopee Comp’; Westfield (3-1-1) travels east to Wilbraham to play Minnechaug Regional.
