(EAST LONGMEADOW) - Last night, the Colts from Chicopee Comp were on the road against the Spartans from East Longmeadow.
The Spartans are led by HC Brendan Abad; the Colts are led by HC Gavin Miller.
East Longmeadow jumped out to an early lead in this game. They were up 13-2 when the 1st timeout of the game was called. The Spartans were getting transition layups and wide open jump shots in their half-court offense.
The Colts settled down and made a 7-3 run to end the first quarter. They were down 16-9 after one.
The Colts and Spartans played an even second quarter. The Colts were finding ways to score and playing better defense. The Spartans missed a lot make-able shots in the second quarter.
East Longmeadow led at halftime 34-26.
In the third, Chicopee Comp Guard Tineus McCluster started to assert himself. He scored all eight of his points in the third. During the Junior Varsity game, HC Miller told me that McCluster has the potential to be the Colts best player.
At the 3 minute mark in the third, Chicopee was only down seven, 47-40. By the end of the quarter, ‘Comp was down 56-42.
The Colts played hard all game but the Spartans were too much. East Longmeadow cruised to victory 69-52.
Ray Carter scored a game-high 19 points. Paul Gosselin scored 12 points.
Ja’cyion Cox scored a team-high 12 points for the Colts. Jeremy Rodriguez scored 11 points.
The Spartans improve to 8-6; Chicopee Comp is now 2-10.
