Minnechaug Holds Off Late Run by Easthampton to Win 62-53

(WILBRAHAM) - Minnechaug Regional HS hosted their Boys 🏀 Senior Night on Wednesday evening. Minnechaug hosted Easthampton HS. This game was another Western Mass. inter-county battle between Hampden and Hampshire counties.


There are four Minnechaug Seniors on their roster this season: Colin Leydon; Caleb White; Leon Lopez; Joe Finnegan



The game started very slow. Neither team could make a shot for the first 4 minutes of the first quarter. Easthampton finally scored a layup at the four minute mark which broke the scoring drought. The baskets were still scarce in the 1st. The game was tied at 5 after one quarter.




The second quarter started like the first quarter - several missed shots by both teams. Minnechaug was ahead 11-10 at the 3 minute mark in the second. Neither team could put together consecutive baskets, until the last three minutes of the quarter. Minnechaug finally got their offense going and leaped in front of Easthampton. Minnechaug went on a 12-0 run to end the half. They were ahead comfortably 23-10.



Minnechaug controlled the third quarter, maintaining their double-digit lead the entire quarter.



Easthampton made their final push to even the game in the fourth quarter. They narrowed Minnechaug’s lead to five points, 43-58, in the middle of the fourth. That was as close as Easthampton would get in the game. Minnechaug weathered Easthampton’s run. Minnechaug continued to make baskets and maintain their lead.




Minnechaug beat Easthampton 62-53.


Senior Colin Leydon scored a team-high 11 points for Minnechaug. Chris Moreno and Pat Jahn had 10 points each.



Carter Daughdrill scored a game-high 19 points for Easthampton. Mateo Navarro scored 9 points.


Minnechaug improves to 8-10; Easthampton is now 1-16.
