The 4th & 1 play converted by the Chiefs is already getting the hype of a “gutsy call” or a “great play”.
Tyreek Hill caught a pass from Chad Henne that went for 5 yards. It was a routine play KC and many other NFL and FBS teams run.
Hill beat MJ Stewart Jr, the Browns CB in coverage, from the slot position closest to the LoS.
It wasn’t a “gutsy call” and it wasn’t some “genuis play”.
A #1 WR beat a 4th string CB on a simple out route towards the sideline.
Most NFL coaches would have made the call to go for it there. If you gain one yard the game is over; if you punt you could lose the game.
There is the possibility the Chiefs don’t convert the 4th down play 🤔 🤷🏽♂️ Most decisions in life come with some risk or consequence. Winning the game by gaining one yard is the only call.
Andy Reid isn’t a genius because he uses old college plays and weird motions.
Reid isn’t a genius because most defensive coordinators in the NFL don’t have the players to matchup with Travis Kelce or Tyreek Hill.
Reid is lucky. He felol into a good spot in KC, in an era of FBS offenses in the NFL. If Bieniemy gets a HC job (which is down to Houston and Philadelphia now 😅), we will see what Reid can scheme-up on offense.
Also, with Patrick Mahomes in concussion-protocol, who will start against the Bills this Sunday?
