(AMHERST, MA) - Last night, the Minutewomen hosted a 1st Round WNIT game against UAlbany. Both teams lost in their respective conference championship game. The Minutewomen were among the “First Four Out” (according to ESPN) of the NCAA Tournament.
The game was close for a few minutes in the 1st quarter. Once the Minutewomen took control of the game, they never relinquished that control.
Sydney Taylor scored a game-high 19 points. Angelique Ngalakulondi and Sam Breen both registered double-doubles. Ngalakulondi had 17 points and 15 rebounds; Breen scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Makennah White scored 12 points off the bench.
UAlbany was led by Kayla Cooper. She had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. She did a lot of damage in the paint for UAlbany. She was active on the offensive glass and she made some good post moves to score over tough defense by the Minutewomen.
After the game, UMass HC Tory Verdi said, “Angelique did a phenomenal job on the boards, getting second chance points for us. The inside play between Ang’, Makennah and Sam was tremendous”.
The Minutewomen host Harvard on Monday, 3/20 @ 7 PM. UMass beat Harvard earlier in the season 77-67. Sydney Taylor scored 23 points in the victory. Destiny Philoxy had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
